Terra Mechanica Maris: Our First Conference at Scottish Renewables Offshore Wind 2025

Last week, Declan and I had the pleasure of attending the Scottish Renewables Offshore Wind Conference 2025. It was our very first conference appearance as Terra Mechanica Maris Ltd; and I must say, it was quite an experience, equal parts overwhelming and inspiring! We arrived full of enthusiasm, armed with business cards and a burning desire to meet people who shared our passion for the renewable energy sector. It didn’t take long to realise that we were surrounded by a buzzing hive of talent, innovation, and sheer determination to build a cleaner, greener future.

The main objective for us was to connect with like-minded individuals; those with solid drive, fresh ideas, and enthusiasm that matched our own. We weren’t disappointed. It turns out, there are plenty of fantastic people in this industry who share a genuine excitement for what lies ahead. There was a palpable sense of collaboration in the air, a feeling that we’re all part of something much bigger.

One highlight of the day was hearing from Chris Stark, who, as many of you will know, was handpicked by Ed Miliband to spearhead the UK’s clean energy mission for 2030. Listening to Chris speak, it’s impossible not to be drawn in by his unwavering commitment to the cause. The energy he brings to the room is infectious. You can tell he’s not just here to tick boxes he’s here to make things happen.

We also managed to grab a brief chat with Iain Sinclair, who was incredibly generous with his time and advice. Iain is the kind of person who exudes positivity and makes you feel like no goal is too far out of reach. We left that conversation feeling not only inspired but also more confident about the role Terra Mechanica Maris could play in supporting the big players in achieving their renewable energy goals.

Another exciting aspect of the conference was learning about funding and grants. Let’s face it, being a young company can feel like an uphill battle at times, especially when you’re trying to bring ambitious ideas to life. But hearing about the support available to innovative companies like ours gave us a real boost.

The Dinner venue itself deserves a special mention. The annual dinner, held at the stunning Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, was the cherry on top. There’s something about sharing a glass of wine in a room full of historical grandeur that makes networking just a little bit easier. And speaking of networking, if there’s one lesson we’ll take away from this experience, it’s the importance of preparation. Walking into an event like this without a clear plan is a bit like wandering into a maze blindfolded. Next time, we’ll make sure to book meetings in advance and structure our days so we’re not just strolling aimlessly. (Although, let’s be honest, some of the best conversations happen when you least expect them.)

The conference kicked off with a fantastic opening address by Claire Mack, whose energy and insights set the perfect tone for the event. Kate Forbes, Scotlands Deputy First Minister, followed with a speech that was both insightful and articulate, underlining Scotlands commitment to being a leader in offshore wind.

Overall, the Scottish Renewables Offshore Wind Conference 2025 was an incredible experience for Terra Mechanica Maris. It wasn’t just about networking or making connections; it was about being part of a larger conversation. It was a chance to listen, learn, and share ideas with some of the brightest minds in the industry.

We left the conference feeling motivated, optimistic, and ready to tackle the challenges ahead. There are some truly exciting projects on the horizon, and while we might only pick up a few scraps from the table for now, we are determined to make those scraps count.

Here’s to the first of many conferences, and to the future of renewables; one where Terra Mechanica Maris hopes to leave its mark.
